Dr. Marian Babirecki-Labrum was born in Uruguay of a
Uruguayan mother and a Polish father. After completing
high school in Uruguay, she came to the US, where she
received a BA in Spanish and an MA in Latin American
Literature from BYU, and a DML (Doctor in Modern Languages)
from Middlebury College.
She is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Translation.
Her specialties in the Department are:
- Translation and Interpretation
- Language Instruction (Upper division)
- Latin American Culture and Civilization
She is a member of the American Translator Association and
holds accreditation in English-Spanish translation.
She is the founder and director of the Spanish Translation
Program at BYU. She serves nationally in the Honor and
Awards Committees of the American Translators Association.
Her research and publications are in the field of translation
studies.
