On March 1, 2016, James R. Krause began a three-year position as national director of Phi Lambda Beta, the Portuguese National Honor Society, which is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). The board of directors of AATSP invited Prof. Krause to serve as national director due to the fact that BYU’s chapter, only started in 2014, quickly became the largest and most active chapter in the nation. His duties will include promoting PLB’s mission, approving new chapters, and maintaining positive relations with PLB’s current chapters. While he is thrilled to take on this new assignment, he recognizes the efforts of his colleague Frederick G. Williams, the PLB student council, and society members for the recent success of Phi Lambda Beta at BYU.
