Biography
Coming from a small, rural town in Eastern Washington, I always loved any opportunity I could get to learn about other places and cultures in the world. As such, serving a mission in Brasília, Brazil and being able to learn Portuguese was such a defining moment in my life. My connection to Brazil morphed into a desire to learn more about Lusophone cultures, landscapes, histories, and issues, all of which I was able to explore throughout my undergraduate studies at BYU. Now in this master's program, I am excited to combine that background with my love for the outdoors to research portrayals of the natural environment, human-land interactions, and environmental justice in Luso-Brazilian literatures. When I'm not reading or studying, I am likely hiking, playing music, watching a movie, or exploring someplace new.
