Hispanic Literatures

Biography

I grew up in Eden, UT, a small community in the northern part of the state. I learned Spanish on my mission in Arkansas and Uruguay, where I discovered my love for the tight-knit nature of interpersonal relationships among Spanish speakers. After I returned home and began my undergrad studies in Spanish, I continued to be inspired by this theme of interconnectedness and love for one's neighbor. This culture and perspective still fascinate me as I further my studies in Hispanic Literature. Outside of education, I enjoy anything outside in the mountains with people I love!

Advice to Current or Future Graduate Students

Find ways to teach in whatever capacity possible! It will give you more experience than anything you're studying. Secondly, get to know the faculty members you will be working with over the next few years. They are incredible individuals who want to contribute to the goodness in the world and will share wise and encouraging counsel with you!

What I like about BYU

The aims of BYU not only seek to bring about a Zion community, but to help students develop into lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. BYU seeks to access the power that comes from using both the spiritual and the temporal intellect to bring about good in the world. I have experienced this and am so grateful for this university's vision!
