Portuguese Placement Map

Portuguese Placement Map Updated 1/5/22
PORT 101: 1-2 years of High School or less
PORT 105: No Portuguese but fluent in Spanish
PORT 201: Score of 3, 4 on NEWL test of 3 years of High School Portuguese
PORT 206: Score of 5 on NEWL test or 4-11 months in Portuguese mission
PORT 321: More than a year in Portuguese Speaking mission

Heritage speakers of Portuguese: PORT 201, 206, or 321 depending on level.
Also consider taking PORT 211R or 311R to enhance conversation skills.

In order for students to succeed in PORT 321, they should be able to speak, write, read and listen at the Advanced Low level or better.
