Spanish Placement Map

Span 101: no prior language experience, or 1 year high school Spanish
Span 101-102 Accelerated: no Spanish, but significant other language experience (Portuguese, French, etc.) or 2 years high school Spanish-weak program
Span 105: 2 years high school Spanish, strong program
Span 205 (GE credit): 3 year high school Spanish or AP Spanish Language test with a score of 3,4
Span 206 (GE credit, challenge exam): AP Spanish Language Test with a score of 5, 4 years of high school spanish
Span 321 (GE credit, challenge exam): 1 year of more in Spanish mission, if 3 months of less in Spanish mission: SPAN 105-106 accelerated, 4-11 months in Spanish mission, or stateside mission with limited Spanish use: SPAN 205 or 206

*In order for students to succeed in SPAN 321, they should be able to speak, write, read and listen at the advanced low level or better. Heritage speakers of Spanish should take SPAN 105, 205, 206, or 321 depending of proficiency
